Hungarian filmmaker Péter Engelmann’s short film Triangle has come a long way since its initial recognition as a UK film school graduation project.
Initially shortlisted for the 2021 Student Academy Awards and BAFTA Student Awards, the film has not only garnered prestigious accolades but has also achieved its broader social aim of fostering discussions on mental health.
A Homegrown Success Story
Shot entirely in Budapest amid the challenges posed by the pandemic, “Triangle” is a British-Hungarian co-production. While the film emerged as a graduation project from the Arts University Bournemouth, the crew predominantly comprised Hungarians.
Since its shortlisting, “Triangle” has gone on to secure a BAFTA qualification, among numerous other awards. What’s even more fulfilling for the creators is the film’s recent screening at Kürt High School in Budapest, marking World Mental Health Day. This was a special milestone for Engelmann, as the film was originally conceived with the purpose of fostering conversations on mental health issues.
