Hollywood actor John Malkovich is coming to Budapest this autumn, to perform in Erkel Theater’s “The Music Critic”, with musical accompaniment by the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda.
The two-time Oscar-nominated American actor will perform a musical stand-up version of “The Music Critic” with a large orchestra in Erkel Theatre on October 2. In this ground-breaking performance, Malkovich will dissect some of the most iconic pieces of classical music, with the most vicious quotes and opinions from contemporary criticism between each piece. On the world premiere, John Malkovich will be accompanied by Aleksey Igudesman violinist and Danubia Orchestra Óbuda, who will show how fun classical music can be.
For over thirty years, John Malkovich has been one of the world’s most popular and best-known theater actors. His film credits include “Dangerous Liaisons”, “Of Mice and Men” and “Being John Malkovich”, but he has appeared in many fan favorite films and series such as “Red”, “The New Pope”, “Johnny English” and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. He is also one of the most important stage actors of our time and has appeared in Hungarian theatre productions on multiple occasions.
In October, the nearly two-hour long extended version of the play will feature works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Schumann, Debussy, Prokofiev, Ysaÿe, Kancheli, Piazzolla and Igudesman.
