MOZ.GO – Hungary’s Largest Film Festival with New Name and Venues

The Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, now rebranded as MOZ.GO, will take place from June 12-15, 2024, featuring nearly 100 Hungarian films at 12 locations in Veszprém, Balatonfüred, and Balatonalmádi. The festival kicks off with a gala screening of the crime-comedy “Ma este gyilkolunk” (We Kill Tonight) in Veszprém’s Historia Garden. This film stars András Kern as an actor-turned-detective and features a host of legendary Hungarian actors, including Judit Pogány, Tamás Jordán, and Gyula Bodrogi.

The festival, organized by the National Film Institute and Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program, with the Hungarian Film Academy‘s patronage, offers screenings for a symbolic price of 500 HUF. For the first time, MOZ.GO will also provide behind-the-scenes insights into upcoming Hungarian productions like the epic “Hunyadi” series and the action-packed “S.E.R.E.G.” series.

Highlights include Réka Pigniczky‘s “Kaláka – a Kárpátoktól a Karib-tengerig” (Kaláka – From the Carpathians to the Caribbean), celebrating 55 years and 1300 songs of the iconic band, and Péter Hegedűs‘ innovative VR film “Hallasz engem?” (Can You Hear Me?). András Surányi’s portrait film “Eötvös Péter” will also premiere, showcasing the life of the recently deceased world-famous composer.

Dr. Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Regional Development, highlighted the festival’s significance: “I am pleased that Hungarian film used to return to Veszprém and Lake Balaton every year, but now we can say it has moved here permanently. Our goal is to become Europe’s new cultural-creative industry region, and film is one of the most spectacular sectors of this industry.”

Csaba Káel, the government commissioner for the development of the motion picture industry, added: “We invite the public and the industry with a diverse array of inspiring films, from crime comedies to record-breaking sports documentaries and uplifting biographical works.”

The Hungarian Motion Picture Awards will be decided by a five-member jury led by Béla Ternovszky, a renowned animated film director. Other jury members include acclaimed actress Dorottya Udvaros, director Linda Dombrovszky, content development director Róbert Kárász, and screenwriter György Lukácsy.

The festival promises an unforgettable experience with the latest Hungarian films, star-studded appearances, and open-air screenings in the beautiful Veszprém-Balaton region.
