Gábor Reisz Returns to Venice as Jury Member

Gábor Reisz, the acclaimed director of “For Some Inexplicable Reason” and “Bad Poems,” is set to return to the Venice International Film Festival, this time as a jury member.

Last year, Reisz won the top prize with his film “Explanation for Everything,” and now he joins the Orizzonti (Horizons) section jury. This section is considered the festival’s second most important competition, highlighting innovative and experimental films.

Joining Reisz on the Orizzonti jury are notable figures such as American screenwriter and director Debra Granik (known for “Leave No Trace”), Tehran-based director Ali Asgari, Syrian filmmaker Soudade Kaadan, Greek writer-director Christos Nikou (director of “Apples”), Swedish actress Tuva Novotny, and Italian screenwriter-director Valia Santella.

The Orizzonti jury will present awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Short Film, along with a Special Jury Prize.

The last time a Hungarian filmmaker was part of the Venice Film Festival jury was in 2017, when Ildikó Enyedi participated in the main competition jury. Before that, cinematographer László Kovács was a jury member in 2002. The 81st Venice International Film Festival will take place from August 28 to September 7.
