After a six-year hiatus, Oscar-winning animator Ferenc Rófusz is set to release a new short film, “Privát szféra”. Rófusz, who won an Academy Award in 1981 for his short animated film “The Fly”, chose a Benjamin Franklin’s quote as the new project’s motto: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
Supported by the National Film Institute (NFI), “Privát szféra” marks a significant return for the celebrated animator, promising to captivate audiences with its poignant narrative.
The NFI’s recent funding wave includes several other noteworthy projects. Director István Nagy’s “Pillanatnyi lakóhelyünk” is a documentary focusing on the impacts of climate change. György Mór Kárpáti’s drama “Két világ között” explores the lives of cage fighters, delving into their struggles and aspirations. Ágnes Gyarmathy’s “Hazatérők” tells the compelling stories of Hungarians returning home, shedding light on their personal journeys and challenges. Additionally, Bálint Gigor’s “Talán” captures personal transformations, providing a deep dive into human emotions and relationships. These diverse projects underscore the NFI’s commitment to fostering a broad spectrum of Hungarian cinematic expression.
