Budapest served as a key filming location for the upcoming political thriller The Day of the Jackal, starring Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne as the titular assassin.
The new 10-part series, based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel, reimagines the original story in a modern context. Redmayne’s character, the Jackal, is a professional killer, and the series follows an intense manhunt that spans across Europe to stop him.
In this adaptation, the classic narrative of an assassination attempt on French President Charles de Gaulle is brought into the present day. The series promises a thrilling, suspense-filled journey with a focus on modern political intrigue. Notable actors Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”) and Úrsula Corberó (“Money Heist”) will join Redmayne, adding even more star power to the cast.
Hungarian locations play a prominent role in the series, with the trailer featuring Budapest’s iconic Keleti Railway Station and the city’s historic metro system. The presence of these landmarks brings local flavor to the story, enhancing the tense atmosphere and setting for the European-wide chase.
“The Day of the Jackal” will premiere on SkyShowtime on December 6.
