Marcell Jankovics, one of the greatest figures of Hungarian animation, passed away last year. His last film about Toldi, based on the poem about the famed folk hero by Hungarian poet Janos Arany, will be released in Hungarian cinemas on October 20.
The spectacularly animated film is the result of over three years of work by 80 creators who did their best to bring the original tale of Toldi to the silver screen in an authentic way, while depicting medieval Hungary with historical accuracy.
Through the story of Miklós Toldi, the true Hungarian superhero, we witness the story of a teenage boy of unrelenting strength who learns to use and master his own abilities only to then become the most famous knight of King Louis the Great. The animation, directed by Marcell Jankovics and Lajos Csákovics, not only shows us a young man in search of his own identity but also the richness of the chivalric world and the Hungarian wilderness and moorland.
The film was supported by the National Film Institute and will be released in Hungarian cinemas by Kecskemétfilm and Mozinet.
