The Cold War espionage drama Billion Dollar Spy is rumored to be filming in Hungary, though official confirmation has yet to be made. Produced by Weed Road Pictures and Walden Media, the film is directed by Amma Asante and written by Ben August and Stephen Gaghan, with cinematography by Hagen Bogdanski.
Based on true events, “Billion Dollar Spy” follows CIA officer Brad Reid, newly stationed in Moscow, as he forms an alliance with Soviet engineer Adolf Tolkachev. Despite initial skepticism from his superiors, Reid gains Tolkachev’s trust, leading to a significant intelligence leak. The film explores themes of espionage, secrecy, and personal sacrifice.
Mads Mikkelsen and Armie Hammer are reportedly attached to star in the film, though no official casting announcements have been made. While specific production dates remain undisclosed, Hungary’s established film industry and varied locations could contribute to the film’s visual authenticity if the rumors prove true.
The project is being produced by Akiva Goldsman, Greg Lessans, Cherilyn Hawrysh, Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan, Jane Hooks, and Naia Cucukov.
