The upcoming psychological horror film Brides is set to begin production in Hungary in May 2025. Written and directed by Chloe Okuno (Watcher), the film stars Maika Monroe (It Follows) as Sally Bishop, a woman recovering from a nervous breakdown who travels with her husband to a secluded Italian villa in the 1960s.
The villa’s enigmatic count becomes fascinated by Sally, but his carefully controlled world—inhabited by vampire brides—begins to unravel as she disrupts his violent paradise. Produced by Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu under Likely Story, the film is being developed in collaboration with FilmNation Entertainment and Neon.
Monroe, known for her roles in modern horror classics, brings her signature intensity to the lead role, while Okuno, whose “Watcher” was praised for its suspenseful direction, is expected to deliver another atmospheric and unsettling film. Casting director Jeanne McCarthy (“Lady Bird”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) is handling additional casting, hinting at a strong supporting ensemble.
Backed by major indie distributors like Neon, known for “Parasite” and “Titane”, “Brides” is expected to be a visually striking and thematically rich horror film. With a compelling premise, a strong creative team, and Hungary’s atmospheric locations setting the stage, the film is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing horror releases in the coming years.
