Hungarian director Márton István Szabó is gearing up for his debut feature film, “Captain Noise.” Supported by the National Film Institute – Hungary’s Incubator Programme, this film tells the story of DJ Pápai, a 75-year-old DJ facing the end of his musical career due to hearing loss.
The film, co-written by Szabó and András Kocsányi, will feature Gábor Dióssi in the lead role. Produced by Mónika Mécs under Inforg-M&M Film, the project boasts a budget of 345,411 EUR. Filming is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2025, with a release targeted for the first half of 2026.
Szabó envisions “Captain Noise” as a narrative that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of music. His approach blends humor, drama, and emotional depth, making “Captain Noise” a highly anticipated addition to Hungarian cinema.
The film’s thematic focus on the intergenerational transfer of cultural and musical knowledge is expected to appeal to a broad audience, bridging gaps between different age groups and highlighting the universal language of music.
Szabó‘s entry into feature filmmaking marks a significant milestone in his career.
