The beloved animated classic Hungarian Folk Tales (Magyar népmesék), produced by Kecskemétfilm, is set to return with a new season thanks to the support of the National Film Institute (NFI).
Over the past fifty years, the 100-episode series has become an international success, deeply rooted in Hungarian cultural heritage. The upcoming 13-episode season will conclude with four episodes directed by Lajos Csákovics and Zsolt Maticska, with visuals inspired by the folk art of the regions where the tales originated. Music will once again be provided by Kaláka, and the series will be produced by Ferenc Mikulás.

Another animated project, Társasház az Olümposzon (Condominium on Olympus), based on the script by the late graphic artist Líviusz Gyulai, reimagines figures from Greek mythology in humorous, mundane situations. The film, produced by Judit Éva Ordódi and directed by Katalin Glaser, combines comedy with philosophical undertones.

The pilot episode of Mimóka mesék (Mimóka Tales), written and directed by festival-winning filmmaker Luca Tóth(Superbia, Mr. Mare), will help young children navigate emotions hidden behind tantrums.

Adgwa Ata, an animated short film by Zsuzsanna Kreif (The Adventures of Candide), tells the story of a young girl’s coming-of-age in a mysterious female tribe deep in the jungle. This Hungarian-French co-production is produced by Péter Benjámin Lukács and Gábor Osváth.

In live-action, debut filmmaker Éva Hanna Pekár’s short film Akit most keresek (The One I’m Looking For) follows a disoriented 20-something courier who is forced to confront her aimlessness after an unexpected event.

Historical and cultural documentaries are also in development. A dramatized documentary on Ilona Tóth’s 1956 show trial will explore the regime’s methods of political retaliation and propaganda. Directed by Márk Győri, the project is produced by Dominika Bálint-Halas and Dr. Attila Bálint.

The second season of The Spaces of Violence will continue to uncover hidden traces of dictatorship in Hungary, directed by László Réti.
