“Poor Things”, emerged as winner in the Best Production Design award category at the 2024 Academy Awards.
The film, starring the likes of Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, and Willem Dafoe, competed with blockbusters “Barbie”, “Napoleon”, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, and “Oppenheimer” in the category.
Filmed in Budapest at Origo Studios, Poor Things was one of the most successful films at this years’ Oscars. In addition to Best Production Design, the film also took home awards for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, and Best Actress in a Leading Role, the latter awarded to Emma Stone.
The award is a triumph for the Hungarian film industry as well. Set designer Zsuzsa Mihalek, who worked together on “Poor Things” with renown professionals James Price and Shona Heath on the movie’s production design, has been well-known in the film industry for decades, and she was one of the hundreds of Hungarian experts, working on Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things”, which received a total of 11 nominations at this year’s Academy Awards.
