Hungarian animation is stepping onto the global stage with unprecedented visibility at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where Hungary will serve as the official guest of honor. In support of this milestone, the sector has launched Hunimation.com, the first English-language professional website dedicated to Hungarian animation, alongside a new industry trailer representing 24 studios and 75 films.
Developed with backing from the National Film Institute, these initiatives are key elements of Hungary’s long-term animation development strategy. The goal is to enhance the international accessibility of Hungarian animation and support co-production opportunities, academic outreach, and festival participation.
Hunimation.com, produced by the team behind Friss Hús, offers an extensive industry database, news coverage, and event listings, and will serve as an information hub for international professionals. The website includes a dedicated section for Annecy’s screenings, exhibitions, and professional events, and will remain active after the festival under the stewardship of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design’s Film Knowledge Center.
Launched simultaneously with the site, the industry trailer showcases a diverse array of styles, techniques, and themes from across the Hungarian animation landscape. Set to music chosen to reflect a uniquely Hungarian tone, the trailer visually unifies past and present achievements in the sector.
The rollout of these tools underscores Hungary’s ambition to solidify its position in the international animation community, building on a decade of rising visibility, festival awards, and cross-border collaborations.
