From Budapest to Madrid – Ferenc Puskás Series in Development with Acclaimed Writers

The legendary story of Ferenc Puskás is being brought to the screen in an ambitious new TV series, currently in development under the working title Puskás.

The project is driven by an impressive team of Hungarian screenwriters, including István Tasnádi, known for “Aranyélet” and “Terápia”, Bálint Hegedűs, the writer behind “Kincsem” and “Liza, a rókatündér”, and Márton Bárány, whose credits include “Toxikoma” and “A Király”.

The series will focus on the defining years of Puskás’s career, tracing his evolution from a young talent at Kispest to a global superstar with Real Madrid. His journey will unfold against the backdrop of the 1950s, an era of intense political and social transformation. While football remains at the heart of the story, the narrative will delve into rivalries, friendships, love, and the stark contrast between communist Hungary and the free world beyond the Iron Curtain. Helsinki, London, Bern, Rome, and Madrid will serve as the key locations, each bearing witness to Puskás’s triumphs and heartbreaks.

The series is being produced by INANI Production, with Péter Herman as the creative producer. Known for his work on acclaimed Hungarian series such as “Válótársak” and “A Király”, Herman brings a wealth of experience in crafting high-quality drama. The project has already secured substantial financial backing, with the National Film Institute granting 90 million forints for script development.
