The upcoming Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, titled F1, is set to release in late June 2025. With scenes filmed in Hungary and guidance from seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the movie is already making an impact in the world of motorsport.
To achieve the film’s authentic feel, the production team attended numerous race weekends over the past two years, capturing footage and creating storylines that resonate with real F1 experiences. Filming involved custom-built 2023 Mecachrome cars, designed to replicate the look and feel of Formula 1 vehicles, as well as a cutting-edge innovation that has drawn attention from within the paddock: an electric pit stop car.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 at the end of the 2024 season, Brad Pitt shared insights into the cars used during filming. “We’ve got four of these,” he said, referring to the Mecachrome-built cars. “We’ve got a fifth one, just for looks, and then we got a sixth one that’s an electric car that we’d be using for pit stops.”
The electric car was developed to allow safer, quieter filming during pit stop scenes while maintaining realism. Although its primary purpose was cinematic, the concept has intrigued F1 teams as a potential innovation for future applications in the sport.
Hungary played a key role as one of the film’s shooting locations, alongside several F1 circuits around the world. The film’s collaboration with Hamilton, who serves as both producer and advisor, ensures a level of technical authenticity that is rarely seen in sports films.
