HBO has officially renewed Dune: Prophecy for a second season. The prequel series has garnered widespread acclaim for its exploration of the origins of the Bene Gesserit, the enigmatic sisterhood that wields extraordinary influence over the politics and destiny of Arrakis.
Set over 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, the series is inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel Sisterhood of Dune. It follows Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) as they lead the fledgling Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. The two must navigate threats to humankind, while their actions establish the foundation of a powerful order destined to shape the universe.
Filming for the series took place at Origo Studios in Budapest, a world-class facility that has become a hub for high-profile international productions. With the announcement of Season 2, it is highly likely that the production will return to Budapest, further solidifying the city’s reputation as a key destination for ambitious cinematic projects.
Alison Schapker serves as the showrunner and executive producer, alongside a team of seasoned creatives, including Diane Ademu-John, Anna Foerster, Jon Spaihts, and representatives of the Frank Herbert estate. The series is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television, ensuring the continuation of the richly imagined universe first brought to life in Villeneuve’s films.
