February 2021 got off to a very good start for Anya Taylor-Joy, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for the first time in her career. She could win the Best Actress Award in both film and serial categories.
The former award for her film Emma, the latter for her role in “The Queen’s Gambit”. Also, she got nominated for a SAG Award for her fantastic portrayal in the Netflix series.
Now, news has surfaced that for Netflix, the series itself was the Holy Grail, as the mini-series was viewed in more than 60 million households. So why not play with the idea of continuing Beth Harmon’s story in another season? And what’s particularly good news is that the star of the series would be in it for a second season without further ado.
“It’s so surreal and very wonderful that people want a second season because we never thought about it, there was no discussion about it,” Taylor-Joy told Deadline. „That said, never say ’never’ in Hollywood. It would be very interesting to see how Beth would be as a mother, now that she’s sober and more cognizant of the demons that pull her down,” – she said.
We could see in the series how important mother figures are to Beth (especially Alma, played by Marielle Heller), becoming Beth’s mother could really be a natural continuation of the story. With Netflix back in November announcing that “The Queen’s Gambit” was the most popular limited series in the history of the streaming platform, Netflix may be releasing the second season soon.
