Whether you are a fan of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Nic Cage, Joaquin Phoenix, or Amy Ryan, we’ve got you covered! However if you just want to chill out and watch something entertaining, perhaps a movie made about the most iconic video game character of all time is just the thing for you.
AIR – 5 April
Even if you are not a basketball fan or a fashionista, you have certainly heard about the iconic Air Jordan shoes. This film, directed by Ben Affleck, and starring the likes of Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, and Viola Davis alongside Affleck himself, tells us the story of how an idea coming from a Nike shoe salesman to sign a deal with a one of the most talented basketball players ever changed the history of sportswear forever. The early pre-premier reviews of the film are nothing short of excellent, and it seems like that the latest film born out of the longstanding Affleck-Damon collaboration has potential to be among the best movies of the not only the month, but also the year.

Super Mario Bros. – 5 April
While it is often debated whether we could consider 1981’s “Donkey Kong” or 1983’s “Mario Bros.” as the first appearance of Mario as a video game character, the little plumber’s place in video game history is unquestionable. The animation film will feature several popular characters from the Mario franchise, with the story following Mario (Chris Pratt) traveling through the Mushroom Kingdom with a princess named Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and an anthropomorphic mushroom named Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) to find his brother Luigi (Charlie Day), and to save the world from a ruthless fire-breathing Koopa named Bowser (Jack Black).

Renfield – 14 April
Upcoming horror comedy “Renfield” will follow the story of the Count Dracula’s (Nicolas Cage) lackey R.M. Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), who falls in love with traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) in modern day New Orleans, and decides to finally stand up against the legendary vampire, hoping to break free of his servitude. The film, directed by Chris McKay, known for works like “The Lego Batman Movie”, comes with a massive budget of more than USD 86 million. While whether the film will be a box office hit remains to be seen, the film could very well become the biggest success of Nicolas Cage’s Hollywood comeback.

Beau is Afraid – 21 April
In “Beau is Afraid”, which is described as a “decades-spanning surrealist horror film set in an alternate present”, Joaquin Phoenix plays Beau, an extremely anxious but pleasant-looking man who has a fraught relationship with his overbearing mother and never knew his father. When his mother dies, he makes a journey home that involves some wild supernatural threats. Written, directed, and co-produced by Ari Aster, the film’s ensemble cast includes stars such as Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, and Parker Posey.
