Netflix’s The Last Kingdom has begun filming its 5th, and final season in Hungary. The series will see a slew of new actors, and new directors as well.
“The Last Kingdom” was originally debuted on BBC Two in 2015, but found a new home with Netflix. The series is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s “The Saxon Stories” novels, following the adventures of Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon-born warrior who was raised a Dane, in ninth and tenth-century England.
“I love this job,” series star Alexander Dreymon said. “Playing Uhtred for 5 seasons has been a wonderful journey. And I’m truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to direct. In doing so, I came to fully appreciate the spectacular talent and skill of our cast and crew even more. I can’t wait to share it with our fans, without whom none of this would be possible.”
The final season will be based on the 9th and 10th books in the 13-part series, and consist of 10 episodes, currently filming in Budapest, Hungary.
“The Last Kingdom” will see a slew of new actors in this season, as well as new directors. Series star Dreymon will make his directorial debut in the final season, and Andy Hay (“Lucky Man”), Paul Wilmshurst (“Strike Back”), Anthony Philipson (“Our Girl”), and Jon East (“Pennyworth”) will also direct in the final 10 episodes.
