The 97th Academy Awards are finally here, celebrating the best in filmmaking over the past year. As Hollywood gathers at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, all eyes are on the biggest names in the industry, waiting to see who will take home the coveted Oscar statuettes. This article will be updated live as the winners are announced, so stay tuned for the latest results.

This year’s Oscars hold special significance for Hungary, with several productions shot in the country receiving major nominations. Dune: Part Two and The Brutalist, both filmed in Hungary, are strong contenders in multiple categories, including Best Picture. Additionally, Alien: Romulus is competing in the Best Visual Effects category, while Maria, another production filmed in Hungary, is nominated for Best Cinematography.

Hungary also has a personal connection to this year’s Oscars, as Dávid Jancsó, son of legendary director Miklós Jancsó, is nominated for Best Editing for his work on The Brutalist.

UPDATE:

The 97th Academy Awards have concluded, with Sean Baker’s Anora emerging as the night’s biggest winner. The film won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.

Hungary had multiple connections to this year’s Oscar-winning films. Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his performance in The Brutalist, which was filmed in Budapest, while Lol Crawley earned Best Cinematography for the same film. The movie also picked up a win for Best Original Score, with Daniel Blumberg receiving the award. Dune: Part Two, shot at Origo Studios, continued the franchise’s dominance in the technical categories, winning Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.

Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez took home Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña) and Best Original Song (El Mal by Clément Ducol and Camille). Meanwhile, the big-budget musical Wicked also secured two Oscars, winning Best Production Design and Best Costume Design for its vibrant, large-scale world-building.

Among other major winners, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, while Peter Straughan received Best Adapted Screenplay for Conclave. In animation, Best Animated Feature went to Flow, a Latvian production, while In the Shadow of the Cypress won Best Animated Short Film.
