Shadow and Bone has been officially renewed for Season 2, meaning the fantasy adventure will continue on-screen. The cast made the announcement in a video.
It’s no surprise that Netflix renewed for season 2 after the strong viewership numbers of the first season, which was watched by more than 55 million member households in its first 28 days, according to Netflix. The series made the Top 10 list in 93 countries around the world and hit No. 1 in 79 countries including Australia, Brazil, Germany, Russia, Spain, South Africa, and the U.S.
“I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse,” showrunner Eric Heisserer said in a statement, “and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo.”
“I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going. There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit, and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore.” – said Leigh Bardugo.
Unfortunately, it’ll be a long wait for another season. The show’s first season was a huge production, filmed in and around Budapest, Hungary, and was logistically complicated even before the global pandemic slowed down most major productions.
“Shadow and Bone” has already been renewed for a second season then the next chapter of the story may already be in development. Based on Netflix’s typical production schedule, “Shadow and Bone” season 2 will most likely release in Fall 2022.
