The world was shocked when the interview with Oprah Winfrey came out as no topics were off limits. All subjects from the reason behind their stepping back, through how dark Archie’s skin would be, to mental health and history repeating itself were discussed in the 2-hour long sit down.
Over Christmas, the couple took a six-week break from royal duties to spend some time in Canada with their son, Archie, who turns 2 in May. When they arrived in Los Angeles in March, the couple moved into a residence, widely reported to have been borrowed from media mogul Tyler Perry. They had just left another borrowed estate on Vancouver Island in Canada to head south before the border with the U.S. closed due to Covid.
Since the couple announced in January 2020 they were stepping away from their royal roles and moving to North America in search of more independence and privacy, they have been rarely seen out, thanks in part to the pandemic. They are likely very pleased they managed to move to Santa Barbara in July without word leaking out until mid-August.
Harry said he was desperate for an escape because they were asking for help, but never got it. They intended to step back as senior royals and take a breath from the “constant barrage.” In the interview Harry said his biggest fear was history repeating itself, referring to his mother, with Meghan. He said they ultimately left the royal family because there was a lack of support and a lack of understanding.
Despite now residing in America, Harry said he’s never walked away from his duties, saying he simply “stepped back” from them.
He added, “My life is always going to be about public service and Meghan signed up for that.”
In an interview with James Corden, he asked him why he decided to walk away, Harry is quick to reply, “It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down.”
“I will always be contributing. But my life is service, so wherever I am in the world it’s always going to be the same thing.” He continued.
As they are no longer “working royals,” Harry and Meghan are free to make their own income, but for the moment, where is their money coming from?
It was understood the couple would continue to receive money for a time from Harry’s father under the new agreement, although it is unclear whether that would come from Prince Charles’s income from the Duchy of Cornwall a vast portfolio of property and financial investments, his personal wealth, or a combination of the two.
Prince William and Prince Harry received the bulk of the £13m fortune left by their mother Princess Diana. Speaking of their move to the U.S., he told Oprah that “I’ve got what my mum left me and without that we wouldn’t have been able to do this”– said Harry.
Prince Harry is also thought to have been left millions of pounds by his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, says BBC royal correspondent Nick Witchell.
In the Oprah interview Harry mentioned the following “From my perspective all I needed was enough money to be able to pay for security, to keep my family safe” he said.
Multiple platforms have discussed Meghan Markle’s personality and the fact that Harry doesn’t seem very happy.

There’s the hypocrisy on the privacy question. The Duke and Duchess despise the invasive media they referred to it as a ‘monster machine’ and insist they just want a private life. Yet they’re constantly revealing all, this interview is proof of that. Meghan lives for the spotlight and has no intention of stepping out of it.

“According to family friends, she was intrigued by Diana, not just for her style, but for her independent humanitarian mission, seeing her as a role model.” This suggests that she was very much aware of Prince Harry before meeting him.
A supposed “childhood friend” of Markle’s is claiming that, “She was always fascinated by the royal family. She wants to be Princess Diana 2.0.” She even took a European trip in 1996 with her childhood friend Ninaki posing in front of the Buckingham-Palace.

She pointed out that it is unbelievable that Meghan did not get the help she asked for regarding mental health as it would have bad effect on the institution. Many members of the Royal family have seeked professional help over the years, including Princess Diana and Prince Harry himself. She continues that Harry has very much changed since he is with Meghan.
“Prince Harry is certainly not the person I spent well over a year with. He was lively, vivacious, dedicated to his country. He is not that now. Now, he is resentful, he is anxious.”
Everybody is entitled to their opinion about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and to end on a positive note, the two are welcoming their second child, a baby girl in the summer.
