The second season of Euphoria aired a few weeks ago, and therefore Zendaya talked about her interest in the process of filmmaking. The second season of the series was also shot by the Hungarian cinematographer Marcell Rév, who had a great influence on the actress.
As she previously mentioned, she is getting more into the details happening behind the scenes, and on the other side of the camera. She has told InStyle magazine that this is mainly because of the impact of the Hungarian cinematographer of “Euphoria”, Marcell Rév.
„I’ve always been interested in things behind the camera. But “Euphoria” really grew my love for cinematography, just watching Marcell Rév light things and make every frame gorgeous. He and [series creator] Sam Levinson build these beautifully intricate shots and put so much detail into everything. I’m a Virgo and I like to be thoughtful of everything. But watching them work inspired me to get more into photography.”– said Zendaya.
And an interview with Marcell also revealed that it’s not just Zendaya who is a fan of Marci‘s work, but vice versa. “We’ve been working together for years. The “Euphoria” crew is a small family, a group of friends or something like that. Zendaya is extremely humble, always prepared and interested in every aspect of filmmaking – including the technical details. I wouldn’t be surprised if she would start directing in the near future. Otherwise, she’s fun to hang out with on set.”

She has told already in the beginning of shooting that it was going to be a very rough season, and it was tough to shoot. Now she’s gone into a bit more details about why it’s so tough, and she said that she is actually going through the same as her character.
“I really, really love my character Rue, therefore a lot of times it totally breaks my heart when she’s going through something. And your body doesn’t know what’s happening is not reality. She just takes these things in and actually feels them. Sometimes it takes time to get back to normal.”
In the second season, we can no longer count the amount and type of drugs that enter Rue‘s bloodstream; the bourgeois naturalism is a trademark, while the newer and newer party hits and Marcell Rév‘s superbly dynamic photography drag the scene along between the two climax moments.
The Hungarian cinematographer was also nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for the episode Trouble Don’t Last Always, which aired in December 2020. The episode was the first of two specials in the 2019 series, in which the main character, Rue, played by Zendaya, sits in a café and talks to her mentor about her relapse into drugs and the loss of her love, among other things.
