If everything goes well, this movie is going to be one of the biggest bangs of the year, the monster movie of monster movies, because King Kong and Godzilla are not playing around. Obviously, not everything goes well all the time.
Back in the day, when Legendary Entertainment along with Warner Bros. Studio embarked on building its own so-called „MonsterVerse”, many were just shaking their heads at, and maybe thought „What could still be brought out of old classics like”: Godzilla and King Kong?
Then, Gareth Edwards showed that you can really do something with the giant lizard because Godzilla (2014) was a very strong start, the Jordan Vogt-Roberts directed Kong: Skull Island (2017) was one of the best ever made. It became a giant monster movie with a King Kong, who was stunning and who shouldn’t be upset. And we already knew then, that these two colossi would meet each other shortly, as the studio swung it well ahead of Godzilla vs. Kong, we just didn’t exactly know how. Well, we are still not aware, but we got a little closer to the truth with the first preview.
It turns out that people have captured Kong and transported him somewhere on a huge ship – according to the synopsis, they help him find his real home, but as we can clearly see, it doesn’t look like he’s being helped. It also turns out that there is a native little girl, a certain Jia, with whom the giant monkey has some special relationship, and who is there with him on the ship. Then Godzilla emerges from the waves, angry. Why angry? Why raging? No one knows why, but he makes firewood out of huge battleships and confronts Kong, and we get the answer to the most important question!
Yes, the two of them are the same size, which does not have much logic, considering in the previous movies, the giant reptile is about ten times the size of the monkey – but if they weren’t the same size, what would make their clash exciting?
From the previous part Milly Bobby Brown, Ziyi Zhang, and Kyle Chandler, as well as Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, and Rebecca Hall, whom we don’t know who are yet, but for the time being, it doesn’t matter – they will be in the movie.
What matters is the gigantic clash of Kong and Godzilla, which is unfortunately not a preliminary highlight of the extraordinary, but at least Kong seems to be standing hard in the mud, even against Godzilla’s legendary blue atomic ray.
We can all look forward to this part, as well as what the new director, Adam Wingard (Death Note), will bring out of this astonishing material and these two film icons.
Questions will be answered this year in March. That is when the film will be released in both theaters and on HBO Max.
