The highly anticipated next chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune saga, Dune: Messiah, is set to begin filming in Budapest, Hungary, in September 2025. Production will return to Origo Film Studios, which has become a key location for the Dune franchise.
Following the massive success of “Dune: Part One” and its sequel “Dune: Part Two”, “Dune: Messiah” will continue the epic story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), also known as Muad’Dib. As Emperor of the known universe, Paul grapples with the immense power he holds and the religious fervor of the Fremen who revere him as a god. The film will explore the political intrigue, betrayal, and personal sacrifices that threaten his reign, particularly the danger posed to his beloved Chani (Zendaya) and their unborn heir.
The cast will once again feature Chalamet and Zendaya, joined by Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy. Villeneuve will helm the project as writer and director, with Linus Sandberg serving as director of photography. Legendary Entertainment continues to produce, with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Brian Herbert, Kim Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Thomas Tull attached as producers.
Origo Studios in Budapest, a cornerstone of Hungary’s thriving film industry, will serve as the main production hub for “Dune: Messiah”. Known for its state-of-the-art facilities and contributions to numerous high-profile international productions, Origo has been instrumental in bringing Villeneuve’s ambitious vision to life.
Filming is slated to run from September 2025 to January 2026, with “Dune: Messiah” scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. As the Dune franchise expands, Budapest solidifies its reputation as a major player in global cinema, showcasing the city’s capacity to support large-scale, visually stunning productions.
Fans of Frank Herbert’s Dune series and Villeneuve’s cinematic adaptations can look forward to another visually breathtaking and emotionally intense journey as “Dune: Messiah” delves deeper into the complexities of Paul Atreides’ reign.
