The Role of AI in Film Production

In a recent interview with Esquire, Brad Pitt shared his perspective on the integration of artificial intelligence within the film industry. Pitt suggests that if utilized as a tool, AI could assist in the production of mid-budget films, specifically those with budgets ranging from $40 million to $90 million. By potentially lowering the costs associated with visual effects, the technology could allow more projects of this scale to reach production.

Concerns Regarding Performance and Licensing

While acknowledging the potential benefits for production efficiency, Pitt expressed a more complex view regarding the use of AI to replicate human performances. He noted that while AI could technically simulate an actor’s performance, the final output might lack the specific creative choices and emotional nuance an actor brings to a role. Furthermore, Pitt addressed the industry practice of body scanning, noting that he has consistently included clauses in his contracts to maintain ownership and ensure the destruction of such scans.

Future Projects and Industry Outlook

Pitt described the ongoing integration of AI in cinema as an interesting experiment. Beyond his views on technology, the actor is currently preparing for his upcoming film, Heart of the Beast, and is set to collaborate with director David Fincher on The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a project based on a script by Quentin Tarantino.
