Director Eli Roth (“Hostel”, “Knock Knock”) has teamed up with Lionsgate to bring Gearbox Software’s Borderlands to the big screen.
In the adaptation Jamie Lee Curtis will play Tannis, based on the character Dr. Patricia Tannis, an archeologist on the planet of Pandora, whose expertise could help lead to a mysterious vault filled with ancient alien technology. She has a tricky background with Blanchett’s character, Lilith.
“Working with the iconic Jamie Lee Curtis has been a life long dream of mine, and I am so excited for her to bring her humor, warmth and brilliance to the role of Tannis,” said Roth in a statement.
Tannis is an archeologist on Pandora who might have the key to finding the vault, but her complicated history with Lilith (Blanchett) isn’t going to help that.
“Jamie is unique in the way that her character have depth and gravitas, but are also always hugely entertaining – she commands the screen,” said Nathan Kahane the president of Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group.
“At this point, Jamie is like family to us — after bringing so much to “Knives Out” and hosting last summer’s ‘Lionsgate Live’ fundraiser to help theater workers, we could not be more thrilled to be working with her again.”
Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing “Borderlands” via their Arad Productions banner. Erik Feig is producing through Picturestart. The executive producers are Randy Pitchford, the executive producer of the Borderlands video game franchise and founder of the Gearbox Entertainment Company, and Strauss Zelnick, the chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.
Hungary’s top production service company, MidAtlantic Films head of production services Adam Goodman talked previously about how Hungary was adapting its services in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re opened up space for a Lionsgate film, “Borderlands”, we’re doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project.” Goodman said.
