The nominees for the 2023 Hungarian Motion Picture Awards have been made public by the festival’s pre-jury committee. The films “Az almafa virága”, “Blokád”, “Hat hét”, “Larry”, and “Magasságok és mélységek” are in the running for the Best Feature Film category.

The Best Director nominees include Szilárd Bernáth, Sándor Csoma, Yvonne Kerékgyártó, Noémi Veronika Szakonyi, and Ádám Tősér. The Best Actress and Actor nominees, as well as those for the Best First Film, have also been announced. The award ceremony will take place on June 10th, as part of the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, organized by the National Film Institute and the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 – European Capital of Culture program.

This year, nearly two hundred entries were submitted in seven categories – feature film, TV film, short film, animated film, full-length documentary, short documentary, and TV series – for Hungary’s most prestigious film showcase. The Hungarian Motion Picture Award, founded in 2014 and previously known as the Hungarian Film Award (2014-2020), is Hungary‘s most prestigious annual film art award, given to the best films and creators of the previous year in genre and creator categories.

The five-person professional jury will award the competing films and their creators with the Hungarian Motion Picture Awards. The jury is chaired by Lajos Koltai, a globally renowned cinematographer and director, honored with the title Artist of the Nation, and recipient of the Kossuth and Béla Balázs Awards.

The other members of the jury are Katalin Bakos, editor-director, television professional, Kata Dobó, actress-director, Ákos Pesti, film producer, film production professional, and János Vecsernyés, Béla Balázs Award-winning director-cinematographer. The awards will be handed out in 20 categories at the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival on June 10th.

This year’s Hungarian Motion Picture Festival will be held from June 7-10, where the audience can see the latest Hungarian films. The Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, a celebration of Hungarian film in the beautiful Veszprém-Balaton region, promises a unique experience for the audience and an exciting gathering for Hungarian filmmakers.

The festival is set to be packed with premieres of the latest Hungarian creations, thrilling stars, and unforgettable cinema experiences in Veszprém, Balatonfüred, and Balatonalmádi, both in cinemas and at outdoor screenings on cool Balaton evenings.
